Learning through play at North City

Activities and crèches at North City are planned around the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which incorporates all areas of learning and development from birth to 5 years.  This planning ensures that your child’s development is enhanced in the following areas:

  • Communication – Listening, Understanding and Speaking
  • Physical – Moving and Health
  • Personal – Confidence, Feelings and Relationships
  • Literacy – Reading and Writing
  • Maths – Numbers and Measures
  • Understanding – People, World and Technology
  • Expressive Arts – Materials and Imaginative

All childcare providers also work to this curriculum such as Nurseries, Pre-Schools and Childminders.  This curriculum is also followed in the school reception year, that is the first year of your child’s school life.

Please see our current Activity Programme for all the activities and services that you child can benefit from.

School Readiness

If your child attends activities at the Children’s Centre or is cared for by and OFSTED registered  Childminder, Nursery or Preschool, their learning and development will be supported by the EYFS Curriculum through the activities and play opportunities planned by the professionals working with your child.  This will help ensure your child is best equipped for the next important step in their life – starting school.  These professionals will help them to:

  • Recognise their written name
  • To understand simple routines
  • Develop their listening skills by answering the register, sharing books and singing songs together.
  • Encourage self-care skills such as dressing, washing hands and toileting on their own.
  • To help your child to manage food and drink by themselves by opening packets, pouring drinks and sharing snack time with the other children.
  • To encourage children to take part in the fun activities planned for each session.
  • To give your child the opportunity to socialise with other children of the same age.
  • To develop speech and language.

If you think you or your child may benefit from additional support to make the transition to school smoother we run ‘Let’s Get Ready’  sessions each summer term.  Please call us to add your name to our list.
